HIER & JETZT:Connections (HUJ:C) is an exchange and residency program for artists in exile. The initiative was launched in 2017 by artists of B.L.O. Ateliers in Berlin-Lichtenberg.
We collaborate and exchange ideas on a collegial and informal basis and thus create a platform for art, learning and communication. We define exile as the loss of one’s social context and working environment in the country of origin for an uncertain period of time. Our structure supports the arrival and artistic production of those who recently came to Berlin. With help of our cross-cultural network we organize workshops, artist talks, film screenings, open studios and exhibitions. We invite experts and the public to share new social footholds and artistic incentives with people from various cultures.
HIER & JETZT: Connections is situated at B.L.O. Ateliers, a workspace independently run and located at a former railyard in Berlin-Lichtenberg, open to international cultural producers. Around 70 people work here among which are visual artists, musicians, photographers, blacksmiths and special effects technicians. The cultural association Lockkunst e.V. organizes non-profit projects with various cultural and communal partners.
HIER & JETZT: Connections is funded through the integration funds of the Bezirksamt Lichtenberg, Fachbereich Kunst und Kultur (Cultural Office of Berlin City District Lichtenberg, Art and Culture Department). The Integration Fund is a measure of the Berlin Senate’s overall concept for the integration and participation of refugees.
HIER & JETZT: Connections (HUJ:C) ist eine seit 2017 bestehende Initiative von Künstler:innen für Künstler:innen im Exil, die ein Austausch- und Residenzprogramm in den B.L.O. Ateliers in Lichtenberg organisiert. Wir kooperieren miteinander auf kollegialer und informeller Basis und schaffen so eine Plattform, die als Kunst-, Lern- und Kommunikationsraum dient. Wir definieren Exil als den Verlust der Arbeitszusammenhänge und des sozialen Kontextes im Herkunftsland auf ungewisse Zeit. Unsere Struktur unterstützt das Ankommen und die künstlerische Produktion der neu in Berlin Lebenden. Mit unserem cross-kulturellen Netzwerk veranstalten wir Workshops, Künstler:innengespräche, Filmvorführungen, offene Ateliers und Ausstellungen. Wir laden Expert:innen und die Öffentlichkeit ein, neue soziale Verankerungen und künstlerische Impulse mit Menschen aus zahlreichen Kulturen zu teilen.
HIER & JETZT: Connections arbeitet in den B.L.O. Ateliers, einer selbstverwalteten und heterogenen Künstler:innengemeinschaft in Berlin. Auf dem Gelände des ehemaligen Bahnbetriebswerks Berlin-Lichtenberg-Ost gehen Kunst und Handwerk gemeinsame Wege. Etwa 70 Personen produzieren u.a. in den Bereichen bildende Kunst, Handwerk, Musik- und Filmproduktion. Der Trägerverein Lockkunst e.V. organisiert gemeinnützige Projekte mit verschiedenen kulturellen und kommunalen Partner:innen.
HIER & JETZT: Connections wird gefördert aus Mitteln des Integrationsfonds des Bezirks Lichtenberg von Berlin, Fachbereich Kunst und Kultur. Der Integrationsfonds ist eine Maßnahme des Gesamtkonzepts zur Integration und Partizipation Geflüchteter des Senats von Berlin.
