Launched in 2017 by artists from B.L.O. Ateliers in Berlin-Lichtenberg, HIER & JETZT: Connections (HUJ:C) is a residency and exchange program for artists in exile. The organization defines exile as the loss of one’s social context and working environment in one’s country of origin for an uncertain period of time. The program supports artists who have relocated to Berlin by providing workspace, opportunities to share their work publicly, and engagement with HUJ:C’s artist network. It offers a platform for art, learning, and communication through collegial and informal collaboration.
Over the last seven years, HUJ:C’s transcultural network has grown to include more than 35 artists from over 20 countries, comprising Artist-in-Residence alumni and program contributors. The network organizes workshops, artist talks, film screenings, open studios, and exhibitions; these events serve as points of interaction between artists and the public, promoting cultural exchange and understanding. HUJ:C events aim to engage the broader community and raise public awareness of culturally diverse issues through art and dialogue. Through these activities, HUJ:C’s network continues to develop new social connections and resources for its ever-growing community
