Hier und Jetzt: call for artists in exile 2017

OPEN CALL for artists in exile for an artist residency at BLO Ateliers Berlin

WHO WE ARE

The BLO Ateliers is an artists community in Berlin Lichtenberg. We are about 60 people working and producing visual arts, music, photography, fashion design, metal works, special effects for movies and a lot more.

“HIER und JETZT” (HERE and Now) is a residency project for artists in exile, who are living in Berlin and have the need for a working space for their artistic production. Our intention is to offer the possibility for exchange between artists in exile and the artists of the BLO Ateliers.

A parallel program with talks, project presentations, video-art screenings and exhibitions will be held during the 6 month long project and will be open to the public audience including the community of the BLO Ateliers.

SCHEDULE AND DETAILS

From April until September 2017 the guest studio K22 will be offered to 3 artists or artist groups in exile already living in Berlin.

HIER und JETZT artist residency project offers artists in different career stages from various disciplines (writing, painting, sculpture, multimedia and video art, new technologies, installation art, performance, music, dance, etc) a working place for a concentrated period of two months. We support residents in their creative explorations, investigations and artistic growth within an environment of communication and exchange.

The artists will be selected by a jury of international artists who work at BLO and organize the HIER und JETZT Project.

THE STUDIO

The studio is about 60 sqm on the ground floor. It consists of one bright individual room. One third of it is separated by a wall (see floor plan below). The studio has internet and access to bathrooms and water and is situated at the BLO Ateliers near to the S-Bahn station Nöldnerplatz. It is not possible to live in the studio.

The studio will be offered to each artist for 2 months. During the residency period we ask for a public presentation of the work. Each artist will have a budget of 500 Euro to cover material costs. The studio rent is covered by Bezirkskulturfond Lichtenberg.

At the end of the whole residency project there will be a group show featuring the participating artists at the “After the Butcher” Gallery in Berlin Lichtenberg (planned for October 2017).
