Strong social identities are often praised and striven for. They are supposed to assure orientation, acceptance, mutual understanding and security, in short: a community that feels like home. On the other hand, social sciences have been recognising identities as the result of social pressure and even violence. Because of this origin, each strong identity itself tend to become violent not only against its surroundings but also against the persons who share this identity. How can this mechanism be avoided? U-Bahn is a trio based in Berlin founded by three new comers to Berlin from Istanbul. Its sound can be described as an improvisation of live loops of Anatolian melodic patterns accompanied by powerful Anatolian rhythms with noisy electronics and synthesizer. Everything develops and happens during the performance.
