The Night of the Howler Monkeys
Uli Westphal
2013
I made this recording after nightfall in the jungle of the Orinoco River Delta in Venezuela. What you hear, among a myriad of other creatures, is a group of Red Howler Monkeys. These peaceful, slow-moving, vegetarian monkeys settle their territorial disputes not by violence, but by joining their voices in an uncanny choral. Us humans could learn a lot from this ancient civilization of fellow primates.
