Since thousands of years humans have been suffering exile. But it also has been a matter of fascination and inspiration. As early as antiquity there are different ways of legal handling and multiple reflections of exile in mythology, poetry and the visual arts. What is the current German legal framework? What can exile mean not only for the identity of the immigrants but also for that of the host country? Can exile be understood as basic human possibility to question and redesign one’s own life without homeland-bond?

Bereits im Altertum findet es sich mythologisch, literarisch, bildkünstlerisch vielfältig reflektiert und auf unterschiedliche Weise verrechtlicht. Welche juristischen Formen nimmt Exil heute an, was kann es für die Identität nicht nur der Immigrant*innen sondern auch des Aufnahmelandes bedeuten? Lässt sich Exil als grundlegende menschliche Möglichkeit begreifen, ohne heimatliche Bindung das eigene Leben zu prüfen und neu zu entwerfen?
